展覽主題牆


欣逢法鼓山「法華鐘」開鐘落成盛會,藉此舉辦「法華鐘禮讚—佛像與經文的對話」特展,以展覽方式傳達與諸佛菩薩之隨喜、讚嘆、同行的心靈感通,提供喜愛藝術的民眾參觀。

本特展由佛像與佛經兩種角度,採取平實、禪意、互動之視覺語言,導引大眾進入書法、圖像、造形、數位裝置等藝術欣賞,讓民眾感受兩者彼此對話的奧妙。展覽內容分為五個單元,包括:經鐘與祈福、法相與雕塑、經文與書法、經變與圖像、數位與互動。

Introduction:

With the consecration of the Lotus Bell at Dharma Drum Mountain, this exhibition is held to pay tribute to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

This exhibition will guide the public to appreciate Buddhist art in the form of Chinese calligraphy, painting, sculpture and digital displays. The focus of this exhibition is Buddhist image and scripture presented in a simple, interactive visual language of Chan, which allows visitors to experience the profound interaction between Buddhist statues and sutras.

一、經鐘與祈福

民眾參與之「祈福語籤」


本單元以動態影像、空間裝置、民眾參與之形式呈現,讓觀眾瞭解法華鐘製作過程及其在歷史架構中的宏觀意涵。而空間裝置建構下的實際體驗,則延伸文字與經鐘之時空轉化,使民眾參與行動成為作品的一部份。

展覽呈現包含三部分:(一)「紀錄經鐘」以紀錄片方式呈現,影像敘述當今世上最大的法華鐘與開鐘儀式過程,及其文物意涵,是一部具有史觀和文獻價值的作品。(二)「經鐘裝置」以法華鐘之製模文字為基礎,建構圓形經鐘意象,營造出一個可以讓人實地探索的空間。(三)「祈福語籤」讓民眾親自參與祈福祝願,將書寫語籤掛在祈福牆上,傳達心想事成的願景。展出作品包括:賴水清的〈法華住世〉紀錄片、廖建忠的〈大鐘音扣〉裝置藝術。

The exhibitions are grouped into five sections:

1. Sutra bell and benediction

There are 3 parts displayed:
(1) "The Record of Lotus Bell":this presentation is a documentary "The Lotus Bell Comes to the World" filmed by Lai Shui-Ching. This film is about the consecration of the Lotus Bell at Dharma Drum Mountain and its cultural significance.
(2) "Installation of Lotus Bell":this display aims at providing an image of the round Lotus Bell based on the molded characters inscribed in the Lotus Bell. It creates a space which viewers can explore by themselves. It is created by Liao Chien-Chun.
(3) "Benediction Card":it is an area where visitors hang their benediction card in a Lotus Bell style on the wall. That allows the public to participate in benediction by themselves and express their visions of self-accomplishment.

二、法相與雕塑

「法相與雕塑」單元以台灣前輩藝術大師楊英風(1926-1997)的佛像雕塑為主,他一生的創作桂冠滿盈,作品每每流釋出「剛柔相濟」、「形神兼備」的禪思境界。楊大師自少年時期親見雲崗大佛的震撼而起,採擷魏晉佛教藝術的性靈和現代虛實哲理呼應,特別是參悟佛法後的佛像創作,融入「緣慧潤生、慈悲和諧」的精神意涵,建構出形神圓融與雄渾壯闊的獨特風格。

此外,展品亦包括當代創作者賴純純和謝毓文等人雕塑,共同展現當代藝術家對於諸佛菩薩化身慈悲與智慧的詮釋,藉由法相莊嚴的形塑關注,讓民眾一窺造像之美。

2. Buddha statues and sculpture

This section focuses on Buddha statues by Taiwan's most prominent master, Yang Ying-Fong (1926~1997). He created a lot of masterpieces throughout his life. His works are characterized by the balance of strength, tenderness and the presentation of appearance and spirit. Viewers can experience some taste of Chan in his works of art. Master Young was inspired by Great Buddha Statues at the Yungang Grottoes (雲崗石窟)when he was young. He combined the essence of the Buddhist art during the Northern and Southern Dynasties in China(南北朝)and contemporary philosophy about truth(實)and falsity(虛). His works of Buddha statues, especially those after his personal experience of the Buddha dharma, are unique in their spirit of compassion and wisdom and magnificent style.

Other participating artists are Lai Tsun-Tsun and Hsieh Yu-Wen. The section shows contemporary artists' interpretation on wisdom and compassion of various Buddhas and bodhisattvas. With attention to the dignified Buddha statues, the public can see the beauty of sculpture.

三、經文與書法

佛典經文兼具智慧結晶與書法之美,亦是度眾人至彼岸的法寶。書法家對於佛經與書寫風格的結合,除了讀誦受持之外,書寫經文亦為功德修行之法。「經文與書法」單元分為經文書法和法華經數位資料庫:(一)書法家書寫經文的書體兼具篆、隸、行、草,內容取材自《心經》、《金剛經》、《法華經》、《大悲咒》…等佛經。(二)「法華經數位資料庫」以數位科技為介面,建構一套完整的查詢與研究典範。

如此,介於傳統與現代二種詮釋佛教經典的並列方式,呈現多樣風格的書寫之美及多元並置的對話意涵。展出藝術家包括:張光賓、鄭善禧、李義弘、林章湖、許郭璜、石博進、林銓居、趙宇修、詹獻坤、李駿濤、林守忠、林恭一,以及由中華佛學研究所建立之「法華經數位資料庫」等作品。

3. Scripture and Chinese calligraphy

The Buddhist scripture is not only the treasure of the Dharma, which delivers all the sentient beings to the other shore of complete liberation but also a combination of wisdom and the beauty of calligraphy. In addition to reading and following sutras, writing sutras is another way to practice and accumulate merits.

There are two topics in this area: scripture calligraphy and digital database of the Lotus Sutra. The juxtaposition of the traditional presentation of sutras in Chinese calligraphy with the modern presentation with new technology implies diversity of Buddhist culture.

(1) On display are Buddhist sutras, such as the Heart Sutra, the Diamond Sutra, the Lotus Sutra, and the Mantra of Great Compassion, written in four Chinese calligraphic scripts. Participating artists in this section include Chang Kuang-Bin, Cheng Shan-Shi, Lee Yi-Hong, Lin Chang-Hu, Hsu Kuo-Huang, Shih Po-Chin, Lin Chuang-Chu, Chao Yu-Shou, Chan Hsiang-Kunn, Lee Tsunn-Tao, Lin Shou-Chung and Lin Kong-I etc.
(2) "The digital database of the Lotus Sutra" established by "The Chung Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies" allow index searching for various versions of the Lotus Sutra. That has become the best model for inquiry and research.

四、經變與圖像

諸佛菩薩之丹青彩繪是化身無量的比擬,亦是心懷慈悲喜捨之象徵,如唐代記載佛畫經變圖即是依據佛經典故所繪製的作品。經變畫的內容,可從一部或數部有關佛經內容加以組織而成,以此得到反映現實生活,而使人們的願望得到昇華。

「經變與圖像」單元藉由藝術家詮釋經變為平面圖像、裝置與立體造形,呈現當代人對諸佛菩薩善念和禪意生活的新見解。展出藝術家包括:黃光男、奚淞、蔡根、張恬君、戚維義、張立曄、鄭炳煌、潘信華、蘇孟鴻、聶蕙雲、陳慧琛等人作品。

4. Illustrations of Buddhist Scripture and Buddhist Images

Portraits of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are both representations of their countless manifestations and symbols of their loving kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity. Buddhist paintings are illustrations of Buddhist scripture. They are based on one or several Buddhist sutras. This kind of painting reflects the daily life and aims at sublimating people's wishes.

In this section, besides paintings, contemporary artists represent Buddhist sutras in installation art or sculpture. These section show modern people's new ideas about the good will of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and what the Chan lifestyle is about. Participating artists are Hwang Guang-Nan, Hsi Sung, Tsai Gen, Chang Tien-Chun, Chi Wei-Yi, Chang Li-Yeh, Cheng Ping-Huang, Pan Hsien-Hua, Su Meng-Hung, Nieh Hui-Yung, Chen Hui-Chen etc.

五、數位與互動

「數位與互動」單元的概念是將傳統菁華賦予新意,在傳統與創新的場域中,透過數位影像、動畫、互動式媒體藝術之媒材,邀請觀眾參與體驗。作品如:汲取蓮花幻影的〈鏡花水月〉、擦身而過的〈心之鯉〉、連結異度空間的〈對影〉、動力裝置的〈花園系列〉,以及轉譯「三車火宅」與「三草二木」經文寓意為動畫的〈妙法蓮華〉等,藉由物我互動關係,延伸觀者對經文體會的另一層次認知。

因此,經文不僅是傳統文化的一部份,也是當下生活的體驗感受,兩者共構出深具智慧的燦爛之光。展出藝術家包括:袁廣鳴、魏德樂、吳宗翰、孫弘、黃心健、宋璽德、王伯宇與93MAA藝術團體等人作品。

5. Digital art and interaction

All of the exhibits make visitors have a different understanding of Buddhist sutras with the interaction between the subject and the object. Buddhist sutras are not only part of the tradition but also the experience of the present moment, both of which form the bright light of wisdom.

The exhibits in this section endow traditional essence with new thoughts forms. Viewers are invited to participate in and experience activities through digital image, animation and interactive media art. "The Lotus Blossom of the Wonderful Dharma," for example, is created by Professor Chen and his 30 students. They use 24 squares in one-second morphing 2D and 3D technology jointly to adapt the parable of the burning house (三車火宅,即火宅喻) and the analogy of medicine herbs (三草二木,即藥草喻) in the Lotus Sutra for 5 minute animation. There is no subtitle, but it is easy to understand. Other works are interactive media art, such as "flowers in the mirror and the moon in water", "carp of the mind", "facing reflection" links and the " garden series". Participating artists are Yuan Goang-Ming, Wei Deh-Leh, Wu Tsong-Han, Sun Hung, Huang Hsin-Chien, Sung Hsi-Te, Wang Bo-Yu and the 93MAA group.

Although there are many artworks on display in this exhibition, yet, as Master Sheng-Yen has stressed, what is most important is the meaning and function of each presented work. How to recognize the spirit of each piece of work is the first priority for every DDM guide. Thus, please study and understand the embedded meaning and function of the creations and lead the general public into the Dharma and Chan practice.
